Workshop with ARIEL GORDON
Postcards from the World
A Workshop with Ariel Gordon
Writer, freelance journalist, editor and enthusiast
What?
Wild turkeys roaming the back alleys. Coyotes running down the street. Canada Geese roosting on rooftops. What does it mean to slow down and pay attention to the urban ecosystem? What lives there?
This workshop focuses on what it means to pay attention to the natural world, to stop and see what's living there. Participants will read and discuss works on this topic, then sit and observe for 30 minutes, taking notes. They will then spend time turning those observations into a poem or the beginnings of a story, which they might choose to share with the group.

Her most recent books are Treed: Walking in Canada’s Urban Forests (Wolsak & Wynn, 2019) and TreeTalk (At Bay Press, 2020). Ariel is the ringleader of Writes of Spring, a National Poetry Month project in collaboration with the Winnipeg International Writers Festival and the Winnipeg Free Press.
